sept 26-30

Hello everyone!!!!

Reading: We will be starting a new story called Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night.

Spelling:

backpack- bag worn to carry things

campfire- outdoor fire for heat of cooking

camping- living outside, often in a tent

hike- long walk for pleasure or exercise; to take a long walk

tent- a place to sleep when camping.

We will be having a spelling test on Thursday for Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. This will be the only spelling test we have this week.

We will be doing a variety of content standards in the classroom and will not be having a test over Henry and Mudge.

It is very important that you review your child's spelling, vocabulary, and high frequency words each night.

MATH: We will be starting unit 4 this week. This unit focuses on Tables and graphs.




My homeroom will be learning Spanish on Tuesday and Thursday from a few of our high school girls. This will be a great fun for them.



Our 2nd grade class will be going on a field trip to Circle "S" Farms on Friday, September 30, 2011. This is a wonderful field trip and is enjoyed by all. Parents are welcome to come. Mr. Snyder has asked that NO siblings go so you can spend time with your 2nd grader.

Please have the kids dress according to the weather. They need to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.

Each student will also need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Everything needs to be throw away!!!!

September 19-23

Hello,

Reading: We will be starting a new story called Mrs. Brown Went to Town.

We will be having a pre spelling test on Thursday and a final spelling test on Friday.

It is very important that you read with your child every night and practice the vocabulary, high frequency and spelling words for each story.

MATH:
We will begin the unit on ordinal numbers, greater than, less than, and equal to.

We have started book clubs and I hope to have each child a i pad to use during book club time to read and do some great phonics games with.

Sept 12-16

Reading : We will be starting a new story on Monday, September 12. The story is called Julius.

Spelling words:

imitation- a copy of something else.

We will be having a spelling test on Thursday and if you do not get a 100% you can take it again on Friday.

I will be sending home a study guide for the test over Julius before the test.


MATH:

We will be starting chapter 2 in math.

This chapter is about number patterns, skip counting, odd, even, and patterns.

Please practice odd and even numbers with your child.



Don't forget to send in your child's field trip permission slip and $6.00 before September 27th.

Our field trip to Circle "S" farm will be Friday, September 30th. PLEASE make sure your child is wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. We will be doing a variety of outside activities. They will also need to bring a sack lunch. Parents are welcome to follow the bus to Circle "S" farms. You will be responsible for paying your own way in.
this is a great field trip and the children and staff LOVE it. Mr.Snyder has asked that you find other arrangements for siblings so you can spend quality time with your 2nd grader.

Sept 5-9

Reading:

We will be testing over Dragon gets by on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.

A study guide will be sent home with your child on Tuesday to help prepare for the test. Your child should also have their reading anthology with them each evening to read the story to you.

There will be NO spelling test this week.



Math:

We are working on ones and tens place value.
We are also starting with Saxon math homework on Tuesday evening. We will do side "A" together in class and they will do side "B" at home for homework. This needs to be returned on Wednesday. Homework counts towards their grade.
